Fatal Frame 2 was always my favorite, so playing the new Wii edition was a no brainer. For all those who played the original on the PS2 or XBOX Director's cut, you're in for a treat. Project Zero 2 or Zero: Shinku No Chou (零~眞紅の蝶~,'Zero: Deep Crimson Butterfly'), is a remake of Fatal Frame: Crimson Butterfly developed by Tecmo Koei and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It is also the fifth game in the series.
Following the gameplay mechanics of Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen, the game have an over the shoulder view, the player will fight hostile spirits with the help of the signature weapon, the Camera Obscura. The player use the Wii Remote to aim the camera and the players flashlight. A new mechanic has been added to the game as well as new graphics, updated character models, new camera design, new areas, redone FMV sequences and a two-player mode which have not been seen in any previous games in the series the Haunted House mode.

Emulation Status & Speed:
  • What works:
Everything works so far, didn't experience any problem, the only thing is the sound in the cut-scenes I get noises but nothing that ruins the game.
NOTE:From beginning to end the games works fine (v3.0-714 of dolphin.)
  • What does not work:
The sound that came out from the wiimote (for obvious reasons aka im playing with a ps2 joystick lol)Except of that everything works fine.
  • Known bugs:
-Sound glitches and noises during cut-scenes videos, from slow down voices to out of sync image and video.
-Using special lens on the camera can glitch the sound making it loop constantly in the background while the original sound plays normally, the way to fix this so far:
    1) Not equipping the lens
    2) Saving the game and reloading when this happen
-Using JITIL compiler will glitch the sound of the game very often
  • Region differences:
Can't tell really, only play the European version(PAL), if anyone play the Japanese please say it and I will update it.
  • Emulation Speed
The game runs smooth no framerate drops or anything like that.
Note: when you fight a 4 enemies at the same time in the village(not inside a home) if you dont have a good pc the game will lose several frames, same with the fire seems that take a lot of resource to emulate the fire, the frames goes from 30 to 26/27 in that kind of situations.
When you play with Mayu along your side the game will need more resource so the frames maybe drop a little bit.
The ver r6505 of dolphins runs the game very smooth but keep in mind that is not very stable, for example every time I close the game the emulator crash, if I save with the quick save that game will glitch sometimes or the controls will 'get stuck', the sound in the cut-scenes will play in slow-motion sometimes, and you will see some bugs in some textures like in the lamps and some walls.

Configuration
  • Needed for emulation accuracy:
EFB Copies: Disable unchecked. Check Ram and enable cache, if you dont you want to see the pictures you take, put texture to improve the performance but you will not see the photos in your album. If you check EFB disable the game will not be playable the screen will hang and some other glitch will happen.
  • Possible optimizations:
This is how i config the game myself:
    Another tweaks:
    Graphic general/enhancements configuration:
    *Internal Resolution:
Putting an slower one will give you more frames if the game is lagging a bit, same with aniso filtering and resolution.
    *External frame buffer:
Putting real will give you some frames but makes the game look really bad is not worth it.
*Disabling Idle skipping seems to fix some sounds problems.
    General dolphin configuration:
    *Frame-rate limit :
Using Audio instead of Video seems to fix the audio problems in the cutscenes, the noises are gone but some voices will be played a little bit slow.
Using LLE seems to slow down the game and didn't notice any difference between HLE so dont you use it.
