Daniel Silva is an American novelist who was born in 1960. While working towards his master’s degree in international relations, he took on a job as a journalist, covering the 1984 Democratic National Convention for United Press International. The job was made permanent and he left his studies. UPI transferred him to Washington, D.C., before appointing him as a Middle East correspondent. He returned to Washington, taking a job at CNN.
As a writer, Silva’s career began in 1995, when he started work on his first novel. Published in 1996, The Unlikely Spy was a New York Times best seller. It success allowed him to turn his attention to writing full time.
The Confessor Daniel Silva Novel
Silva has written fifteen spy novels, all of which have been New York Times best sellers. His second novel, The Mark of the Assassin, was published in 1998. It introduced his Michael Osbourne character, who was also central to his third novel, The Marching Season, published in 1999.

His other twelve novels have fit into his Gabriel Allon series. It began with 2000’s The Kill Artist, and has included 2003’s The Confessor, 2008’s Moscow Rules, and 2012’s The Fallen Angel. The Allon character is a spy and assassin who is also an art restorer. Some volumes, such as The Rembrandt Affair, published in 2010, relate directly to artwork. The series is being adapted for film.
