Frigidaire Laundry Center Dryer Repair

Goal: re-attach tub cover after having replaced the tub cover gasket.
Hi. Frigidaire laundry center / stacker / stackable washing machine and dryer combo. Water was dribbling from the left top of the tub and down the side, and I figured out it was the tub cover gasket. Was able to get the tub cover off and replace the gasket, which was totally missing in certain areas. (There also was evidence of someone putting some kind of glue or putty around the machine in a cheap repair effort.)
Now.... I can't get the cover BACK on the top of the tub! There is not enough leverage to press down on the cover to get it over the clips located at the rear of the machine.
My next thought process was to remove the entire unit OUT of the frame so I can clip this tub cover down.
So now we're at the agitator. Unscrewed the top part off-- that's it, no dogs or filters... and when pulling up it moves freely and then gets 'stuck' on something halfway up. I do not want to just yank and yank in case there is some missing step.
Have watched dozens of YouTube videos over the past month and have been in this forum today researching. 'Agitator stuck' 'remove agitator' all kinds of searches. Found a thread

where Jeff tells someone to lean the tub forward and pull hard, but in that case they've gotten their agitator off, which I haven't been able to do yet, and might not even *need* to do... I don't know. Just want to get this tub cover back on. Made an account to ask the question and get some help.
